Forsyth, MT – The Range Companies hosted FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr at its corporate headquarters in Forsyth, MT on Friday, May 31st. It was the final stop in Commissioner Carr’s weeklong trip throughout Montana. In the Rosebud exchange, Commissioner Carr had the opportunity to see firsthand Range’s efforts to upgrade legacy copper facilities to a new fiber optic network.
Range Companies CEO, Rob Johnstone was delighted to host Commissioner Carr on his tour throughout Montana. “Being able to showcase Range’s vast footprint and discuss rural broadband challenges with FCC Commissioner Carr is important for the Range Companies. I would like to thank Commissioner Carr for taking the time to see Range and our passion for broadband expansion and next generation services.”
Range and its affiliates provide broadband and voice services over approximately 30,000 square miles, which is larger than 10 U.S. states. In Montana alone, the subscriber density is 0.35 subscribers per square mile. As the Range Companies continue their focus on deploying more fiber optics to provide the services their customers need, visits with the FCC are important to the future of rural broadband expansion.
In 2019, the Range Companies plan to spend over $4 million in fiber optic deployments. In Montana, areas that will see fiber optic expansion include Rosebud, Busby, and Forsyth. In Wyoming, communities that will continue fiber expansion include Sundance, Newcastle, Sheridan, Cheyenne, Worland, and Pine Bluffs. There will also be other locally smaller projects across all Range Companies’ exchanges.
